Litha – also known as the Summer Solstice – falls around June 21st each year (the date can vary depending on the year, but the solstice or the “first day of summer” is marked on most calendars). It is the longest day of the year. Once the summer solstice passes, the amount of darkness increases every day until we reach the winter solstice.
Litha is a time when the bounty of the earth is obvious. The farmers would long since have planted their fields and would be witnessing the miracle of the earth’s fertility.
This is a time for magic of all kinds as the life energy of the earth is in full creative force. This is still a time of active energy.
The Goddess is showing signs of her pregnancy and the God’s power is at full height. They actively rejoice in each other.
